Ask a Timaru local where to eat in town and chances are they will point you in the direction of The Oxford.
Situated in the heart of the old city in an early 1900s heritage art deco building, the French bistro-style restaurant offers class in a casual environment. Dishes are created around the ethos of uncomplicated quality, which shows in the flavour of all the food that comes out of the kitchen.
There are three main seated areas in the restaurant: the bar, which is perfect for people watching and casual drinks; the brasserie, still close to the main action yet slightly to the side, and the dining room, where good company is the main focus of the evening.
The large windows and fifteen-foot high ceilings create a magnificent backdrop for dining. Take a closer look at the ceiling and you’ll see the embossed pattern, which is the inspiration behind the restaurant’s logo and image.
An independent, locally owned restaurant, The Oxford takes pride in its ninety strong wine list that focuses on New Zealand drops. Wine dinners with blind tastings and wine makers degustation evenings are held regularly.
Great service is at the very heart of it all here, so you can expect friendly, yet polished service every time.
