Te Papa is one of New Zealand’s most prized museums. With its beautiful waterfront location and six floors of innovative and engaging exhibitions, it’s no wonder that Te Papa has more visitors than any other museum in Oceania.
Be sure you have plenty of time to make your way around the permanent and temporary exhibitions showcasing New Zealand’s art, culture, science and history. Whether you’ve got one hour or a whole day to spare exploring this vast museum, try to visit some of the more popular long-term exhibitions like ‘Te Taiao Nature’ where you can experience what it feels like to be in an earthquake, and the immersive, emotional ‘Gallipoli: The scale of our war.’ Leave time to see New Zealand’s national art collection in ‘Toi Art’. Indigenous Māori knowledge is woven through Te Papa’s exhibitions, offering an experience unique to Aotearoa.
Te Papa frequently hosts top-rating international exhibitions and there’s loads for the kids to see and do too. Admission is free and also features a programme of free events, entertainment, performances and talks. Roam around freely or sign up to a tour of the museum, either way you’re bound to impressed.
