A play on the saying; “come hell or highwater” (meaning determination while also being a subtle reference to climate change), Highwater Eatery sits right where the water level used to be on Cuba Street in the early days. This new eatery and wine bar combines its efforts of sustainability with celebrating the good times - meaning you can eat and drink and have a great time with the knowledge that you're supporting the use of local produce, ethically raised meat and an organically focussed wine list. Head chef Alric Hansen ensures the food is top quality in choosing the best product and by making it all in-house. Salmon is smoked and bacon is cured in-house, and sausages (try the house made pork & fennel) are made by hand, which are all delivered by friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff.
Covering all bases, Highwater Eatery is currently open for weekend brunch, Friday lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, meaning you sit in for a quality weekend breakfast (no eggs benedict on the menu here!), come back for a lush lunch at midday, meet your workmates for a drink and snack from the bar in the evening or book in for a full course dining experience (we can’t go past the Chef's menu). Whether it’s a work do, a date night, a family gathering or an outing with a friend, Highwater Eatery is the type of place where hours can pass without you realising, and with tasty quality food, Parrotdog beer on tap, a neat selection of organically focussed wine list, and Rich coffee all on offer, it’s no wonder people find it hard to leave here.
Cleverly designed with half the space occupied by happy eaters and drinkers beside exposed brick and low-hanging bulbs, and the other half by the hard-working chefs bent over their creations in the open-plan kitchen, this eatery is all elegant laid-back charm.
