OOH-FA on Dominion Road in Mt Eden is the pizza-and-wine sibling to Karangahape Road’s popular Pici, but this spot more than holds its own. Cosy and relaxed, it’s quickly become a beloved neighbourhood local that makes a casual dinner out feel special.
Pizza is the main event, with naturally leavened dough, a wood-fired oven and a menu that balances familiar comforting classics with interesting seasonal variations. Their sourdough starter has been going for over four years now, fed daily and built with a blend of flour, then fermented and proved over several days before hitting the oven. A simple, time-honoured format done with real precision.
But it’s definitely worth ordering across the menu rather than locking in on the pizza alone. A few moreish snacks to start, a couple of pizzas for the table, then dessert if there’s room. The in-house-made gelato is always part of regulars’ orders, and the private dining room out the back is a great option for birthdays or small group dinners when you’re after something a little more tucked away.
The drinks list follows the same seasonal, pairing-led thinking as the food. Aotearoa and Italy are both well represented, with a soft spot for lesser-known styles, organically grown fruit and winemakers who care deeply for the regions they work in. There’s plenty of range too, from local craft beers to digestivi and bellinis. But don’t worry, if you’re feeling spoilt for choice, the team are great at offering up pairings to guide you.
A local favourite that balances casual dining with delicious, curated food and drink pairings, it’s an easy choice for dinner any day of the week. Limited walk-in seating is available, but we recommend booking ahead - this place is popular (for good reason).
