Folklore makes a strong impression down Holloway Street in the historic town of Clyde. Two contrasting buildings – an industrial corrugated iron shed and a sleek modern black structure with a dramatic high ceiling – stand side by side, housing a unique and unexpected assortment of goods that complement the one-of-a-kind facade.
Established in 2016 by Sarah and Todd Sisson, Folklore Fine Goods is a lifestyle store dedicated to natural products that echo the wild and untouched beauty of Central Otago. If their names are ringing a bell, it’s likely because Sarah and Todd are both acclaimed landscape photographers and previously displayed their work in a small gallery space within one of the current buildings. Today, their breathtaking photographs continue to adorn the walls inside, adding another layer of visual interest to the shopping experience.
Sarah and Todd are incredibly selective when it comes to picking out different pieces for the store, focusing on the quality and purity of materials. As a result, you’ll find stools hand-crafted from reclaimed wood, 100% linen and cotton clothing, rattan light shades, marble bowls, whimsical bronze sculptures, soft merino blankets, natural stone earrings, and many other discoveries that you’ve probably never crossed paths with. Folklore sources products from an exciting mix of both local and international makers, while also creating their own range of jewellery, greeting cards, brass hardware and more.
With an ever-changing collection of delightfully surprising and uncommon pieces, Folklore brings so much joy to shopping – and it’s almost impossible to go wrong with a gift for your friends and family (or yourself, for that matter). And for those who can’t just stroll down to Holloway Street, Folklore luckily has an online shop brimming with natural wonders.
