Central Otago has long been a magnet for landscape photographers eager to capture its breathtaking scenery. Standing out from the flash of cameras is Janyne Fletcher, a multi-award-winning artist documenting the beauty of the region through a unique lens.

Janyne’s photography transcends traditional landscapes, blending fine art elements with thought-provoking compositions, unique materials, and innovative techniques. Her work reimagines everyday scenes in extraordinary ways – such as her series of logged forests superimposed onto linen, an old house overlaid on hessian fabric, an imagined mountain range assembled from various landscape shots, or the iconic compilation of rustic yellow signs highlighting key locations along the Rail Trail. For Janyne, the click of the shutter is just the beginning of a much deeper creative process.

While Janyne’s artwork can be spotted on walls throughout New Zealand, a visit to her gallery and workshop in Ranfurly offers a special experience. Located in a peachy Art Deco building on Charlemont Street, the gallery is a dynamic space that evolves as Janyne explores new inspirations and techniques. From capturing the initial photograph to printing and framing, she meticulously crafts each piece in the workshop behind the showroom, ensuring it's ready to hang and enjoy in any space. For those looking for a more accessible option, boxes of unframed prints and postcards are available at the counter, offering everyone the chance to take home a piece of her stunning work.

Whether or not you’re in the market for new art, visiting Janyne’s gallery is an opportunity to admire the creations that have earned her a growing collection of national and international accolades. As a Grand Master of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP), the institute’s highest honour, Janyne Janyne has received numerous awards, including three consecutive NZIPP NZ Landscape Open Photographer of the Year titles, alongside several gold, silver, and bronze distinctions.
