Keeping the circular economy spinning in Ranfurly, Lohi Linen offers a relaxing retail environment built on purpose and passion. Set in a large warehouse space, the shop floor showcases an eclectic range of beautiful goods handcrafted by over 20 Central Otago makers, alongside pieces from a few independent designers beyond the region.
The collective was opened by Russ and Tania in the late summer of 2024. The duo’s background in home renovation and interior design certainly came in handy as they spent several months lovingly converting an old bar – and previously a draper’s – into a stylish home for locally made wares. The industrial concrete floor was revealed and the walls were given a fresh coat of white paint, allowing the natural wood and exposed stone features to take centre stage.
Lohi Linen is named after Tania’s own clothing and homeware label, a line of 100% linen garments and cushions made with natural fabrics, wool stuffing, and finished off with eco-friendly haberdashery. With her studio within the store, visitors can always catch a glimpse of Tania with her foot on the sewing pedal or adding a new creation to the display.
The Lohi Linen range is complemented by an endless mix of treasures for your wardrobe and home. You’ll find Eweburn Creek’s soft merino knitwear made in the Māniatoto, the cutest Pebble Pottery ceramics, walls filled with Phil Flanagan’s stunning landscape photography, an assortment of pre-loved fashion, homemade chutneys and preserves, furniture upcycled by Russ and Tania (fun fact: the clothing racks were repurposed from old steel farm gates), bags and accessories, and so much more.
In addition to providing a platform for locals to proudly exhibit their craft, Lohi Linen is committed to giving back to the community through regular events and initiatives. See that runway paved down the middle of the store? Fashion shows are regularly hosted to promote the store’s ever-growing collection of clothing brands as well as raise funds for local schools and community-focused causes. Russ and Tania are also working on a new wine bar to complement the store, offering cyclists and locals a perfect spot to enjoy a drink in between shopping.
Lohi Linen is a one-of-a-kind destination in Ranfurly, championing the work of Māniatoto artisans, while inviting the community to slow down and embrace the slow fashion movement.
