Seeking a calm environment with aesthetically-pleasing interior decor, complete with incredible coffee and delicious food to match? Then look no further, Child Sister has you covered, ticking all the boxes above.

Calling Manchester Street home, Child Sister has become a favourite among Christchurch locals and visitors alike, since opening its doors in 2019. Handily located just opposite the Margaret Mahy playground and around the corner from New Regent Street, it has wide appeal. Any day of the week you are likely to find an eclectic crowd; from families taking a breather in between turns on the giant slide across the road, to central city workers making a pit stop for their takeaway flat whites and lattes, to everyone in between.

What strikes you first when you walk into this cafe is the architectural design (spearheaded by Sydney-based Keemm Studio), high ceilings and exposed beams, alongside curved archways and white walls, all brought together by an earthy colour palette and beautiful olive tree in the centre of the tables.

This serene space is centred around the all-important coffee machine (serving up Lyttelton Coffee Company beans) and food cabinet that houses an array of tempting items both sweet and savoury. There are baked goods such as cookies, scones and slices that are made on the daily on-site, to a range of sandwiches perfect for if you are on the go and need to grab a tasty lunch option. And then there’s a full menu to entice you as well! Things lean breakfast and brunchy, with classics we all love such as eggs bene and French toast, alongside items with a Korean twist - think kimchi grilled cheese and gochujang shakshuka.

Open seven days a week, if you haven’t tried Child Sister yet, now is the perfect time for a visit.
