Ground Floor/79 Cashel St, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch

Nestled within the heart of the city centre on Cashel Street, Coffee Embassy Cashel is a sleek second outpost for a local roaster that's shaped the 03’s bean scene for over a decade. An ideal pre-work pitstop, or place to pop in and refuel throughout the day, the new digs at the bottom of the Westpac building have become an immediate staple of the precinct.

Look both ways for a passing tram before stepping off the humming street. Inside, rich wooden cabinetry curves around a steel countertop, slatted timber lines the ceiling, and stone backsplash tiles combine for an immaculate, inviting atmosphere; something far cooler than your average corporate brewspot. For example, the floor-to-ceiling window facade spotlights a four-tap filter station, two hot, two cold, each lit up with information regarding the origin and producer. A lovely touch from a roastery that takes pride in where their coffee comes from.

Two seasonal house blends form the espresso backbone: Embassy, the real OG, for white coffees, and Beyond for black; something brighter and more fruit-forward. Single origins from Colombia, Kenya, and Ethiopia rotate through, with bags of each neatly lined up for sale on shelves.

The team’s expert curation extends to the cabinet, where, much like everything else, it’s kept precise and delicious. Local fave BUTTER Pastry supplies the decadence, the madeleines and carrot cake proving irresistible, while Bellbird Bakery does what they do best with pastries abound.

A B Corp certified roastery with a growing focus on direct sourcing relationships and transparent supply chains, Coffee Embassy brings this ethos to a wider weekday audience at Coffee Embassy Cashel. Pop by for a delicious brew, a scrumptious treat and an all-round pleasant experience at what is already an adored city nook.
