Handmade in store every morning from organic milk by Nature Matters, the creamy mc’dreamy products at Rollickin’ Gelato are finger-lickin’ good and have quickly proved a popular treat for New Regent Street wanderers.

Promising to fill your puku with real ingredients and super flavoursome mixes, the young entrepreneurial team led by Jed Joyce is committed to using fresh New Zealand products and putting the effort in when it comes to making quality food with quality skills. Coffee here is organic too, with V6 the choice of beans. Complement your gelato choice with a hit of caffeine or combine both treats in one, with a special Rollickin’ affogato. Expect to see some creative combinations like watermelon and mint, peanut butter and jelly and lemon, lime and bitters, with flavours changing as the seasonal produce does too. Dairy-free friends are also looked after, with the sorbet menu just as extensive and delicious looking as the gelatos, and treats can be scooped out of compostable cups or choc waffle cones depending on how much sweet you can handle.

The vibe here is young, bright and playful with cool looking gelato scoopers hanging out behind the counter, and the latest pop songs playing out onto the street. Low hanging bulbs and an exposed brick interior are an industrial look softened by the cheerful drawings, posters and accessories dotting the walls. Jed’s mum Tania created the feature wall mural with the help of lizard designs, and the well-loved couches offer a comfy spot to relax and enjoy your cold treat (and write your name in the visitors' book!)

Re-loved items find a home here too as the team aspires to reduce their landfill impact one couch, spoon, chair and teacup at a time. The result is a wonderfully eclectic vibe where happy visitors find shade from the Christchurch sun under pre-loved umbrellas, and T2 tea is served up in a quirky collection of cups.
