Mirroring the revitalisation of Tauranga’s CBD, Picnicka is a local spot where there is always something going on. Like a village square, it’s a vibrant gathering place, and a delicious spot to grab breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between. From coffee and pastries first thing, right through to after-work drinks and nightcaps, Picnicka is a community hub for all things social. 

Brought to you by the Italian and Kiwi couple, Noel and Kim Cimadom, who decided to bring a piece of Europe with them after living abroad for many years. Kim’s design and fashion experience paired brilliantly with Noel’s Italian passion for food and wine, and with those founding ingredients, Alpino in Cambridge was born. Eventually the couple moved to Tauranga and have since opened Mount Maunganui’s own version of Alpino, Tauranga’s Clarence Hotel, and now Picnicka. Each venue reflects the kind of place that the couple liked to visit whilst living in Europe, but didn’t yet exist locally.

The menu is built around locally sourced and seasonal produce. It’s simple, nourishing, and meant to be shared. For breakfast, it’s hard to go past their signature Bennie, featuring ham hock, miso hollandaise, hash, poached eggs and apple. Effectively capturing the generosity and prime quality ingredients used in their food, it’s a tasty twist on the brunch classic. Later in the day, graze on raw oysters, or enjoy one of the BBQ dishes cooked over an open flame for a delectable, chargrilled flavour. 

Picnicka has the vision of being the ‘lets just go there’ spot for Tauranga locals, any time of day. The space next door is under construction: watch this space for ‘Picnicka Market’, where you’ll find a curated range of food, wine, ice-cream and takeaways to take home and enjoy.
