Strap yourself in. A trip to Gisborne's The WorkShop is like falling down into a pinch-me wonderland of colourful furniture and homewares, designed to inspire and spark copious amounts of joy. Please, no one wake us up.

After taking out the title of The Block NZ in season 7 with her partner Stu, Amy Moore converted an old plumbing workshop into a breathtaking space filled with thoughtfully handpicked products from a kaleidoscope of places, cultures and eras. Whether found locally or on intrepid adventures, there’s a story in everything she sources for the store, and many pieces are made under ethical Fairtrade practices that support local communities and their skillful craft. Handmade Moroccan rugs and woven lampshades are just some of the treasures Amy has picked out on her travels, and she has established many loyal relationships with locals, ensuring everything goes directly to the talented artisans.

Bedding definitely gives off main character energy here, and Amy has an enviable knack for styling a mix of cushions, throws and sheets from leading brands like Sage x Clare, Kip&Co, Lazybones and Bonnie and Neil. Candy stripes meet bright and fruity retro prints alongside soft intricate florals. Deeelicious. In every other pocket of shop you’ll find vintage furniture, one-of-a-kind couches in suede, shearling or corduroy textures, ceramics (including the sweetest ‘Nosey Posie’ creations by Amy’s daughter Nina), stunning tableware, gifts galore, and so much more that you simply can’t find anywhere else in town. Need a little bit of style or design advice? Make the most of Amy’s endless experience and knowledge, and all your interior dreams will come true.

It can be hard to tear yourself away from The WorkShop’s warm and wonderful setting – and with a cute onsite cafe pouring coffee alongside fresh pastries and generous slices of cake, you never have to leave. The only thing that could make your visit better? If Ted, Amy’s big white poodle, decides to pop in as well.
