Neat at MADE isn’t your average bottle store or cocktail bar; it’s a beautiful blend of boutique bottle shop, tasting room, and intimate cocktail bar all wrapped into one stylish space. Neat is where every pour is backed by decades of knowledge and an infectious enthusiasm for all things boozy. Guests can settle into the relaxed yet refined atmosphere, enjoy perfectly executed drinks on-site, or discover something special to take home.

The story begins with Alex Hudson, joined by long-time friends and business partners Mat Pedley and John Moughan. After working together in different ways over the previous decade, the trio officially teamed up in early 2021 with a shared love of food, drink, and Hamilton itself. Alex brings nearly two decades of bartending and cocktail creation to the table, years of travel, tiny details, and endless tasting, distilled into this one project. For all three founders, Neat is a commitment to building something that enriches the city’s hospitality scene, helping Hamilton to sit alongside Melbourne, Sydney, and Wellington as a destination for exceptional food and drink.

Neat is nestled within MADE: a lively market-style hub humming with food vendors, artisan goods, jewellery, produce, and, of course, Neat’s ever-changing line-up of treasures in liquid form. On any given week, you might encounter rare bottles like a 50-year-old grain whisky, a floral 38-year-old Bowmore, or a single cask Springbank with decades under its belt. Just as often, the showstopper could be a small-batch rum or a local beer that still surprises even Alex. This flexibility and sense of discovery are at the heart of the Neat experience - whether you’re sipping a $10 beer or investing in a $2,500 bottle of scotch, you’re treated with the same care.

The vision for Neat is as much about people as it is about product. For Alex, it’s about staying excited: sharing knowledge, tinkering with flavours and making every drink count. For Hamilton, it’s about access to great hospitality, learning, and the joy of tasting something new in a place that feels like it belongs to the community. And for the industry, Neat aims to inspire, not just with exceptional beverages, but with the service, pride, and humility that define the best of hospitality. Neat is building more than a bar; it’s creating a cornerstone for Hamilton’s food and drink culture - one pour, one conversation, and one fun discovery at a time.
