A pair of unassuming red doors on Upper Hutt’s Main Street invites you into Mayfair Cafe, a charming little outfit where history and modern hospitality collide.

Housed in the former Mayfair Theatre, the cafe exudes a nostalgic air from wall to wall. Vintage movie memorabilia, including projectors and posters, pay homage to its cinematic past. A wide cast of textures - from corrugated iron to rock walls and timber floors - reflect the diversity of stories this place has screened over the years. A true venue for all seasons, the open fireplace casts a warm glow over patrons on cooler nights, while an inviting backyard offers a serene retreat for those seeking a breath of fresh air.

Mayfair Cafe's menu is a delightful fusion of Kiwi classics and international flavours, thoughtfully crafted using the freshest local produce. Breakfast enthusiasts can indulge in dishes like the Mayfair hash stack or eggs benedict, while the lunch menu offers a tantalising range of burgers, nachos, and other hearty dishes. For those with a sweet tooth, the banana and bacon waffles come highly recommended.

Local owner Kaushal Adeshara, who brings more than a decade of global hospitality experience, has carefully cultivated an experience that ensures every guest feels part of the family. Regular events, such as musical nights hosted in collaboration with the Mainly Acoustic Music Club, play a huge role in fostering a sense of community here. And that’s what Mayfair is all about - whether you’re a local regular or a visitor from afar, this is a place where you’re meant to feel at home.
