Dark Horse Coffee Co. has been providing the people of Kāpiti Coast and beyond with delicious artisan coffee since 2016. The ethos behind this roastery is to Leave Less Hoofprints, and its commitment to sustainable practices is evident – the Loring hot air roaster has enabled the company to cut 80% of the emissions produced by conventional roasting, plus all the coffee bags are recyclable and there is a recycling station at its flagship espresso bar.

Speaking of the espresso bar, this comfy and cool spot is situated on Sheffield Street and offers a quality caffeine hit of your choice seven days a week. Complete with heaters and blankets for the cold months and plenty of sunshine and shade for the warm ones, this is a spot that works all year round. There’s plenty of greenery and nice touches such as hanging lights that all add to the welcoming atmosphere. On top of taking care of that caffeine craving, you can also pick up everything you need for your home brewing right here: bags of various coffee beans, filters for your pour-over, keep cups and merch are all available.

Fridays and Saturdays see the next-door lot house a pop-up space for the cute caravan of Montfoort Dutch delicacies, which go oh-so-well with a lovely cup of Dark Horse coffee. From time to time, the surrounding area also hosts other food trucks for pop-ups, and the backyard neighbours Duncan’s Brewing co. bring on a buzz on a regular basis as well.

Future plans for Dark Horse Coffee Co.’s flagship espresso bar include growing the cabinet food options and providing hot food for its patrons’ enjoyment. The growing business is always developing new ideas, so a good way to keep on top of the happenings here is to follow its social media.
