Tartan Rose is somewhat tucked away on the fringe of New Plymouth’s centre but you’ll be more than rewarded after your short walk to this incredible cakery and deli. In fact, there’s more than meets the eye at Tartan Rose.

Despite pertaining to be a cakery, which it most certainly is, Tartan Rose is also a full-blown café with a menu of fine brunch dishes. The pièce de résistance is undoubtedly their cabinet; an absoutely chocker block affair with cakes, slices and scones (the latter as big as your head, well not quite, but you get the idea). The lemon meringue pies are perfectly charred with a gooey centre and house a tangy and sweet lemony curd, the right balance of tart and sweet and could be snaffled in mere seconds. You will find flavours that are far from the ordinary, and plenty of options for those who are gluten, dairy or nut-free. Tartan Rose is a master caterer too, and will be happy to assist with your next special occasion cake or cater the next big birthday bash.

The space is light and bright with staff cooking up a storm in the open kitchen; baking and beautifying the delicious output of cakes, salads and sandwiches. Grab yourself a pew, let the supreme coffee flow, and soon your sweet treat and coffee will be well and truly acquainted.

So go on, have a look for yourself, Tartan Rose is worth those extra steps.
