Located within Ōamaru’s historical Victorian Precinct, you’ll find a studio space brimming with creativity, colour and cheer. The shop, tattoo parlour, and art workshop space is owned by Luzette Crossan, a South African-born artist, creative and educator who has called Ōamaru home for the past two decades.
Instant fun is experienced upon entering the building, with black and white checkerboard floor tiles and a bright mural of yellow, orange and purple shapes covering the wall and injecting the space with good vibes. The front area of the studio showcases Luzette’s latest handcrafted designs, where visitors are invited to shop an abundance of colour-popping jewellery, accessories, paintings and more unique creations.
In the next room, you’ll find the ink and needles. Tattooing had never been an art form Luzette considered pursuing. However, it’s a talent she acquired over the lockdown period thanks to the guidance of a friend and tattoo artist. Botanicals are Luzette’s specialty, and these days her diary is often booked out with people looking for a permanent bouquet of fine line flowers, from classic roses to wild delicate poppies.
The final destination at Luzette is the workshop space, a room filled with paint palettes, brushes, and every art material required to inspire creative magic. After school art classes are hosted regularly across the term, as well as paint and sip parties for adults (turns out vino and Van Gogh is a dream duo for catching up with friends, birthday celebrations, team building, etc.).
Luzette’s artistic influence extends beyond the walls of this Harbour Street home. When she’s not tattooing or organising art classes for the young and old, Luzette can be found installing window art displays for local businesses, brightening up Ōamaru’s streetscape with incredible murals, offering fantastical face art for events and festivals, and more. And don't go past Inu, their healthy beverage sister company next door.
