The cellar door at Kurow's River-T Estate has the largest selection of Waitaki wines in the world. And while they’ve got a whole heap of award-winning wine for you to try, they’ve also got a laid-back energy that makes this spot fun for the whole family.

The vines at River-T were planted in 2007 and remain hand-tended, ensuring maximum quality from the vine to the bottle. Once the grapes are ready, they are shipped to Cromwell, where the winemaking process happens by a team that has a deep understanding of Otago terroir.

Their cellar door was opened in 2017, and here you can taste River-T’s wines and other pours from around the region, get a platter and simply hang out. If you find a drop you love, you’re in luck, as River-T also sells its boutique wines by the bottle.  If wine isn’t your thing, they’ve also got Scott’s local craft beer on tap and coffee, too.

Once you’ve decided on a tipple, pair it with any of River-T’s famous platters, which showcase other artisan products of the Waitaki. These beautiful boards feature cheese plus breads, dips, preserves, cured meats, chutneys and other notable nibbles. If you’ve brought the tots along, they can tear into the ‘Ankle Biter’ platter and then burn off some energy exploring the vineyard’s rows.

River-T Estate has an easy going feel, which is reflected in the music, fit out and the untamed landscape that surrounds it. It’s one of the most laid back, come-as-you-are tasting rooms you’ll find. So walk, bike or drive your way over and stay a while.
