In 2021, Nichola Waugh threw open the doors of Hōm to the public for the very first time. Her vision was to bring something new and original to Palmerston North; to create a lasting destination for homewares, interior design advice and gifting inspiration.
Those open doors have barely been closed since, ushering customers into a welcoming and relaxing (dare we say - homely) store in Palmerston North’s inner city. Hōm combines a retail store with a design studio, offering a unique shopping experience amongst a light and bright modern aesthetic.
Nichola makes it her mission to scout affordable products that no one else is offering, timeless pieces that spark a passion in her clientele. Some of her favourite products are the ones she has locally sourced: pottery created by Ashurst artist Suzanne McAllen, candles by Valley Essence and original artworks by Lisa Taylor and Sara Waugh. And yes, if that name seems familiar, it is because Sara is Nichola’s mother. Clearly, creativity runs in the family.
With an artistic gene pool and a patchwork of international experience (including studying in Australia and working in London at Harrods), Nichola has built her business on strong foundations. Not only has she curated a taste-making collection of stock, her wealth of knowledge and experience mean that her trained eye for recommendations brings a lot of value in itself. Focusing on functional design, but also creating beautiful and quality spaces, Nichola can turn interior design from a chore into an act of joy for everyone involved.
So whether you’re undergoing renovations, purchasing a gift or just looking for some calming inspiration, you’ll find that there’s no place like Hōm.
