Many of Palmerston North’s best cafés use Arrosta Coffee’s beans to construct considered flat whites, long blacks and the like. Head to their Victoria Avenue hub to get a sense of what this well-loved, local business is all about. You will find a welcoming espresso bar and functional roastery plus a cupping and training lab - it’s a complete coffee destination.
Owners, Kirsty and Simon Fowler, started Arrosta Coffee in a small warehouse in 2005. Since then the business has grown steadily but they’ve stuck to their core mission of supplying the very best beans and coffee brewing tools that deliver on quality and flavour, again and again. The business earned a medal at the Australian International Coffee Awards in 2019 in the filter coffee category (amongst others) and you’ll soon understand why.
You will notice a steady stream of regulars popping in for their daily caffeine kick at the espresso bar. It has the pleasant hum of a great café and the energy of the roastery all rolled into one, which makes it a fun place to hang out. Choose from an array of barista beverages and even get a slice or other treat. You’ll also find a range of wholesale beans, brew gear and accessories that will help you level up your home coffee game.
Out the back you can observe the roasting process first hand. The team uses classical roasting equipment and de-stoners to create even and consistent roast profiles. Arrosta Coffee champions the ‘fresh is best’ ideology and keeps very strict freshness and flavour standards, while also promoting sustainability and fairness through their Fair Trade Organic and Rainforest Alliance.
The cupping and training lab is just two doors down from the espresso bar and roastery. The team runs training for café teams, business owners and individuals who want to learn more about the stuff. If you’d like to take a course, check the website and sign up - your coffee game will be forever changed.
