Pātaka Art + Museum is the creative hub of Porirua and only a 20-minute drive from Wellington’s CBD. Open since 1998, Pātaka has a rich history of over 800 exhibitions and is home to plenty of curious intricacies (more than 22,000 collection objects). It is recognised both nationally and internationally as a leader in contemporary Māori, Pacific and Aotearoa New Zealand art and culture.

Four flexible gallery spaces mean there’s always plenty of variety when it comes to what’s on. The cool, clean, quiet areas allow plenty of time to peruse the treasures at your own pace. Pātaka is a happy place for small people too—there’s an impressive interactive kids’ zone displaying facts about Porirua Harbour and all the wildlife that calls it home. Get cosy on the cushions and watch as the activities keep curious minds entertained.

Want a little Pātaka to take home with you? The gallery shop, Toi Store, has plenty of gifts, books, jewellery, ceramics and prints for the art-loving friend or family member in your life.
