Elemental Eats in Kenepuru, Porirua, is what happens when you park a food truck in a warehouse and decide to open up a damn good café. Authenticity, affordability, and a touch of quirkiness define this family-owned and operated gem on Kenepuru Drive, quietly renowned for good vibes, great coffee, and, amongst other iconic eats, their signature pies.

One of Wellington's original food trucks, Elijah Cooper and his mum, Helana, spent years travelling the region and coast, catering to weddings, festivals, concerts, and everything in between. In 2022, they rolled into their Kenepuru warehouse and finally pulled up the handbrake, bringing with them a hungry band of loyal regulars.

The space centres around the food truck itself. Walk by the industrial facade when the red roller door is raised, and you'll think you're looking into an exhibition of sorts: a street food scene frozen in time. The rustic, locally sourced furniture, touches of natural greenery, and festoon lights dangling beneath timber rafters soften the setting, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Polished concrete floors and exposed warehouse bones maintain that street-chic aesthetic, keeping things honest and authentic.

Don't mistake the stripped-down look for anything less than serious fare. The menu showcases house favourites that have earned cult status. Their Beef Birria Tacos are one of Porirua's best-kept secrets, while each morning, the bacon-infused aroma of their legendary toasties entices hungry local workers inside. Elijah's signature Kumara Pie, gluten and dairy-free, has proved so popular that it’s available both in-store and Wellington-wide at Moore Wilson's and Commonsense Organics. Little City Kombucha is stocked in bottles in the fridge, but since their premises are right next door, you can always pop over for it on tap. Alongside a range of locally made products, you can find bags of freshly roasted Elemental Coffee, ready to take home, or, better yet, brewed fresh for one of the best cups in town.

Staying true to community, affordability, and uncompromising quality, Elemental Eats is a café that effortlessly presents as both cool and inviting, satisfying the neighbourhood and welcoming curious visitors to what has become a beloved spot.
