Wander down Church Street in the heart of Queenstown and the sight of a flirtatious peacock or a flight of iridescent butterflies will lead you into the home of Flora Fauna – a gallery and boutique store like no other.

Opened by Meredith Parkin in 2021, Flora Fauna is inspired by wunderkammer, an old concept where people collect and display a wonder-filled cabinet of natural curiosities. This enchanting experiential showroom is Meredith’s homage to the world outside, inviting curious minds and treasure hunters to be captivated and delighted. As a little girl, she dreamed of opening a flower shop – this is the realisation of that dream, with a twist.

Step inside Flora Fauna to discover a room packed with fascinating finds. The ethically sourced taxidermy collection includes owls, turtles, and butterflies displayed in glass domes, as well as charming badgers, rabbits, and more. Flora Fauna works with suppliers (including local taxidermists) who share their ethos, selecting items not just for their beauty but their makers’ commitment to sustainability too.

Alongside the beautiful creatures, there’s New Zealand-made jewellery with intricate botanical and animal designs, books on gardening and exploring the world of birds, lush plants, insect puzzles, and everything else to spark wonder in all who walk through the door.

Pop in and explore this one-of-a-kind destination. Whether you’re after a special gift, a new winged companion or just want to soak up the inspiration, Flora Fauna is sure to charm you.
