WORLD is hardly a brand that needs introducing, and the simple, jet-black exterior of its Manners Street store in Wellington certainly gives little away. But step through the doors and you’re immersed straight away in a colourful, almost chaotic wonderland that strikes the perfect balance between quirky and opulent.

There’s a certain electricity that buzzes throughout the space and reflects off the white-washed walls. Threads in every hue dangle from the neat racks lined up against the store’s perimeter, complemented by the fragrances, homewares, and accessories nestled on the uniform rows of shelves. Framed artworks further add to the sense that this is more than a fashion store; it’s an exhibition, a factory of ideas and experiments.

Since its inception in 1989, WORLD has evolved with grace while staying true to its roots: blending exquisitely handmade New Zealand fashion with ideas, personalities, and influences from all corners of the globe. Here, centuries-old brands sit side-by-side with local artists, and antique pieces from Europe mingle with contemporary local craft. Discovery is at the heart of the WORLD experience, so keep an eye out for the surprises out of the ordinary, such as global
candle and fragrance brands (think Trudon, Arquiste, and Marc-Antoine Barrois).

Despite all the magic it brings to Wellington, WORLD is down-to-earth and is happy simply being who it is. Staying curious is the name of the game here; you might just discover something you never knew you wanted.
