Housed within a landmark heritage building on Ponsonby Road, {Suite} Gallery is a contemporary art space showcasing photography, painting and sculpture. Spread across two levels, the gallery offers a calm, light-filled environment where visitors can move freely between rooms, taking it all in.

There’s a strong sense of cohesion throughout, despite the diversity of work on display. You’ll often find a big range of things in a small space, but nothing ever seems to feel too out of place. Pieces by established artists sit comfortably alongside newcomers, with each room offering something slightly different. Upstairs, you’ll find a permanent display of Ans Westra’s photography, while downstairs opens out to a street-front gallery, an open office space and a courtyard sculpture yard framed by a bold design from artist Wayne Youle.

The experience is intentionally welcoming. The space has a slightly domestic feel, making it easy to spend time with the work at your own pace. Knowledgeable, friendly staff are on hand to answer questions or offer insight, adding to the gallery’s noticeably warm, approachable feel.

Their programme reflects long-standing relationships with its artists, with a focus on thoughtful curation and collaboration. The result is a space where the work feels carefully placed rather than overly curated, inviting visitors to explore, be curious and return again. Whether you’re a regular gallery-goer or simply curious to step inside, it’s an easy place to wander into and stay a while.
