On Drake Street lies Allpress Auckland Roastery, a café feeding the neighbourhood with coffee and classic high-quality breakfast and lunch fare. Allpress Auckland Roastery is an institution in the Victoria Park Market area and also houses the roastery, barista training facilities and offices upstairs.

Coffee is the most important item on the menu, and it is some of the freshest in town. On the wall behind the counter, retail hoppers hold their 5 core blends and a rotating single origin, coming directly from the Roastery upstairs. Chat with their team who will happily talk you through each coffee to find which blend and grind size suits you best.

The food comes second with a somewhat traditional and simple menu, but it is done well using top-quality, locally-sourced produce. It’s comforting and clever, and in a city swarming with rich, fusion foods you can’t really fault the simplicity and honesty of their menu. Boiled eggs and soldiers, mixed breakfast plates and salads can be ordered from the menu while Italian style sandwiches stuffed with the likes of corned beef or pumpkin & feta are piled high in the cabinet. There’s also a good cabinet selection to fix your sweet tooth cravings; Biscotto biscuits and ginger or banana loaf which are handmade by their in-house baker up the road at their Ponsonby store, and cinnamon scrolls or plum and white chocolate brioche to enjoy in or take home.
