Seamlessly blending Kiwi culinary traditions with modern French baking techniques is Beabea’s, a much-loved neighbourhood bakery situated in the humble little suburb of Westmere, Auckland. A bakery founded with the vision of elevating classic New Zealand pastries and breads, Beabea’s pays homage to the great aunt of one of the founders – whose home cooking and fond family food traditions left a lasting impression.
Stepping into Beabea’s, you can expect an inviting, open-plan space with an exposed kitchen that showcases a dynamic, working bakery vibe. The journey to creating the space included sourcing second-hand equipment from across the country, including a bread oven and sheeter from the iconic Fairlie Pie Shop and additional equipment from the old Westmere bakery.
The menu features several standout items that combine tradition with a touch of innovation, and many have quickly become favourites among locals. Their steak and cheese pie, pink buns, fresh baguettes and chocolatine are particularly popular. Never heard of a chocolatine? Also known as a ‘pain au chocolat’, those from the southwest of France will be right at home with the term. The bakery’s commitment to quality extends to its coffee, making sure that each Atomic-bean brew perfectly complements their pastries.
Beabea’s brings more than just delicious baked goods to Auckland; it brings a sense of community and a place where food memories are made. At Beabea’s, the mission is to create those same cherished memories for others as great aunt Beabea did, offering a local go-to where people can gather to rely on delicious artisanal baking.
