184 Garnet Road, Westmere, Auckland

Wrapping itself around one of Westmere’s coveted corner spots in Auckland, Seabreeze is far more than just a suburban cafe. With its carefully considered design, exceptional food and drink offerings, and strong sense of local pride, it’s no wonder that the cafe has garnered a devoted local following.

Seabreeze provides views across the harbour along with plenty of outdoor seating designed to follow the sun. Naturally, furry friends are welcome too. Moving indoors, there is a stylish fit out of teal greens and warm woods. Each detail was carefully chosen by owner-operator Brodie McDonald, whose late father and furniture designer, Bob, instilled in Brodie an appreciation for good design. This attention to detail extends to the service you can expect at Seabreeze, which is friendly, thoughtful, and reflective of the community it serves.

When it comes to the food and drink offerings, Seabreeze does not disappoint. From the extensive cabinet crammed with daily housemade goodies to the elevated and effortlessly comfortable menu, there is something for every occasion. Especially when you consider the drinks menu (including a variety of selected wines) and of course, reliably good coffee sourced from Coffee Supreme. A fan favourite is the Bharta Eggs, which features poached eggs, spiced aubergine puree, yoghurt and chill butter served with sourdough toast.

In some ways, Seabreeze has come full circle.  Brodie grew up in Westmere working as a dishwasher at his local cafe - the site where Seabreeze is now. Fast forward through the years to present day, where the local dishwasher is his very own child. Definitely a family affair, Brodie co-owns the cafe with his brother and sister-in-law, and most of Brodie’s nieces and nephews have worked here at some point.

A hub for the Westmere community, this place is somewhere people from all walks of life can come together and share good food and coffee. And Brodie’s personal connection to the cafe’s history only adds to the sense of continuity and community. Seabreeze is a cornerstone in Westmere, and not just in the literal sense.
