Run by Giapo Grazioli, the focus at Giapo’s store isn’t simply about providing a delicious icy treat. Giapo is all about transforming what is undoubtedly the world’s most popular dessert into something that triples as fashionable, artistic and (of course) delicious. This is ice cream that really has had attention paid to it. Everything is perfect – the texture, the flavour, the smell.
Flavours at Giapo are ever evolving, and often feature collaborations with other notable chefs or food industry names. Gelato comes in a cup or a cone, but without fail is adorned with something unexpected and delicious. It’s kind of like the Willy Wonka equivalent of ice cream, but we suspect a whole lot more sophisticated and delicious. We’d even go so far as to say that Giapo is like the Heston of the ice cream world. There’s nothing quite like it.
A trip to Auckland is really not complete without a stop at Queen Street’s most famous ice cream shop but, best of all, at Giapo’s you can have ice cream late at night.
