Riffing on the whole organic health craze sweeping Auckland, Huckleberry is a veteran of nourishment, in Grey Lynn along Richmond Road.
Free range eggs are one of the first things to greet you upon entering followed by eco store bulk buy products where you can bring your own container and fill it up whilst helping slow the progress of NZ landfills. Small, neatly stocked aisles decorate the rest of the store, full of grains, powders, gluten free products and even Trade Aid coffee. Nutrient bars, fruit straps and Cacao chocolate have a prominent display near the exit and offer less debilitating options for sweet toothed children than the average supermarket. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable – as shown by their info board where particular ingredients are often featured along with all its health benefits and uses. Who knew fresh Turmeric root could help prevent cancer?
These guys will pack your goods in a crisp, biodegradable brown paper bag. There’s also a natural pharmaceutical section, with vitamins, tea tree, rubs, drops and oils as a convenient addition. The ultimate selling point was the availability of this month’s copy of ‘Vegan NZ’ magazine which up until that point we never knew existed.
