Tucked away in York Street Courtyard, Völla Café is a sweet little garden oasis dishing out artisanal treats and killer coffee. Founded by artist Rachael Foster, it’s a true testament to Parnell’s creative scene, serving feasts and flavours inspired by her travels around the world.
This unsuspecting hole-in-the-wall joint will leave your tastebuds bewildered with seasonal ingredients setting the tone for everything made here. The rather mega vegetable sarnie has a cult following among local punters as a lunchtime go-to, stacked high with a flavourful combo of cheeses, nuts and fresh produce.
Meanwhile, it’s hard to resist one—or three—of Völla’s signature crispy yet fluffy cheese and rosemary scones. Match this with an expertly made flat white and you have yourself the perfect mid-morning pick-me-up.
While you wait for your coffee, peruse a rotating selection of handmade products such as Rachael’s specialty orange and brandy marmalade. After you’ve filled your tum with treats and ticked off the caffeine fix, our advice is to make a day of it and explore the nearby art galleries.
Make your way up Parnell Road to check out the likes of Black Door Gallery and ARTIS Gallery, which exhibit a selection of ceramics, glass, jewellery and artwork by Kiwi creatives. If you’re wondering what to check out on a day of gallery hopping, look no further, we’ve pulled together a list of Parnell’s best art galleries.
