Meadowlark Jewellery has bite. Founded by creative partners Claire Hammon and Greg Fromont, the Aotearoa brand began at a makeshift workbench in their Auckland home and has grown into one of the country’s most distinctive independent jewellery studios.

The work is often sculptural and symbolic. You’ll find everyday pieces designed to be worn on repeat, alongside more experimental seasonal collections, as well as wedding and engagement rings for both women and men. They reimagine popular traditional and vintage-inspired forms for modern wearers, while playing with clever, unexpected silhouettes and details to add a creative tension that sets their work apart.

Owners Claire and Greg really emphasise the importance of the close relationship between the design process and the actual making of their work. The majority of their pieces are made to order right here in Aotearoa at their studio in Tāmaki Makaurau by a small but mighty team of skilled jewellers. Rather than chasing after trends or pumping out designs in mass volumes, they have remained steadfastly committed to their standards over the years, even as their popularity has grown. The result is beautifully crafted jewellery that holds its place over time, both in style and quality.

That sense of responsibility evidently runs through the wider business too. They’re open about the challenges of working with materials drawn from the earth, using recycled metal scraps wherever they can and taking an honest, step-by-step approach to reducing their impact.

Whether you’re after an elegant everyday staple or something a little experimental, this is the place to look for pieces made to be well-worn, treasured and passed on. Visit them online or in store at their little central studio just off the end of Auckland’s Karangahape Road.
