Albert Park sits on the east side of the city only a minute’s walk from Queen Street. During term time this grassy knoll is often packed with uni students and suits.

There’s a tonne of benches but otherwise the freshly mown grass is equally irresistible. The best part of Albert Park is its proximity to the city, with arterial footpaths leading in every direction away from the central fountain. This Victorian water feature is the heart and soul of the park and provides many a photo op for out of towners looking to get the skytower in the background.

The heritage of the park can quickly be explained by the wealth of plaques dotted around in the immaculate flower beds or next to the giant cannon-like guns located on the peak. The rotunda down the south end is also cool as are the historic trees shading people as they lie about in the sun. Many of the gnarled root systems echo Lord of the Rings. Best of all, this beauty is free! Enjoy.
