Easily distinguished by giant concrete silos, Silo Park is a far cry from the refinery image it presents, and has grown substantially over the past few years into one of Auckland’s ‘to be’ places, especially over summer. As the night air grows warm and people emerge from hibernation chucking on cargo shorts and a tee, Silo Park attracts dense crowds with its grand outdoor theatre. Some of the latest Hollywood blockbusters and kids films make for great viewing considering they’re screened free of charge and come complete with food trucks and stalls providing variety for your intermission snack.

The Silo Park markets are another feature that has become famous around Auckland via word of mouth. Running on Saturdays and Sundays and at night time on Fridays over the Christmas months, there are always rows of curious trinkets and discount clothing, plus some of the best food you can lay your hands on outside of Ponsonby.

An array of top notch restaurants fills the surrounding streets nearby and adorns the wharf that leads back into the city providing some of the stunning views of the metropolis at night. A playground and basketball court are always in hot demand but get over run during ‘Silo sessions’ where some of the best kiwi musicians take to a stage and send your favourite tracks booming out over the crowd.
