Bohemian Bakery’s St Martins shop provides the south of the city with all of the carby goodness familiar from the bakery’s other locations. Expect to find a selection of slow fermented sourdoughs, perfectly crunchy croissants, delicious danishes, punchy pies and delicate tarts, as well as a selection of gluten free treats, such as the scrumptious cheesecake slice. Coffee is created with local C4 beans, and a selection of cold drinks from the likes of Chia Sisters, Born & Raised Kombucha and Karma sit in a fridge chilled and ready to quench that thirst.

An inviting entrance with covered outdoor seating surrounded by climbing greenery takes you through to the petite shop where all the baked goods await. Breads here are bagged and ready to go, while sweet treats, pies and the like can be ordered over the counter. This is a very popular spot on weekends for locals as well as hill-bound wanderers, while midweek mornings see the post-school-drop-off caffeine seekers and pre-work dog walkers pour in at regular intervals – whichever the day of the week, it’s always best to come in early if you are after something specific.

From the very beginning, Bohemian Bakery has aimed to bring food production closer to the people, to reintroduce the village baker concept and, most importantly, to use only honest, quality products. Nothing your grandma wouldn’t recognise goes into the baking here, and while not cutting any corners is labour intensive for the bakers, the flavour and texture of what is achieved through traditional baking methods truly shows in each product. Bread from Bohemian Bakery is so far beyond your regular supermarket toast the comparison can’t even be made.

The St Martins Bohemian Bakery shop is truly like the beating heart of a village. It offers a place for the community to come together; it’s a meeting spot as much as it is the supplier of your daily bread, coffee and sweet treats.
