Vanguard is a fresh look and take on the independent coffee scene in Dunedin. The café is spacious yet engaging, has an industrial feel and is well divided into areas for retail, cabinet staring, communal patronage and quiet corner coffee conversations.

From sourcing beans to producing specialty brews, Vanguard are coffee connoisseurs. It’s not just about espresso here; there are other brewing methods such as Aeropress and Chemex available and, as well, Saturday morning tasters. They only use organic milk too. Their other location on Vogel Street (just a few blocks over) is a brew bar and the roastery, a space where they regularly hold tastings and workshops for the team.

There’s a real emphasis on seasonal food and the kitchen is openly placed in the middle of the café. Using all local produce where possible, it’s about a healthy, modern menu and offerings with everything made in-house bar the bread. Paleo and gluten aficionados are also well accommodated.

The team at Vanguard are passionate, educated and are breaking the mould of your Dunedin coffee experience.
