Nestled amongst fruit trees, herb bushes and shrubs, Punnet Eatery is a home away from home for visitors thanks to its homely interior, epic kids' playground and family-run ethos.

The site started off as a strawberry farm run by the McMahon family, but the demand for the berries and then fruit ice cream soon convinced the family unit that there was more to gain from this beautiful spot in the Waikato countryside. Creating Punnet Eatery was the next step in ensuring that their neighbours and those from further afield had somewhere to rest up and enjoy a wholesome meal, followed by the opening of The Country Providore next door so those same customers could buy much-needed groceries, produce and homewares in one easy place.

String lighting, softly glowing lamps, bare brick interiors, beautifully mismatched wooden chairs and fresh vases of wild flowers on every table give Punnet Eatery a cosy farmhouse feel, where the rustic vibe is not forced but comes from being a much-loved, genuine place. A refreshing change from the usual small box of kids' toys, the half-buried train, plane and boat in the outdoor sandpit are all the entertainment your small comrades will need, and a ‘seedling shed’ means they even have their own place to eat amongst new friends.

Plenty of dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan options grace the menu here, but you’re likely to be so wowed by the descriptions that it’ll be the last thing you notice. With an impressive breakfast menu served all day, it's a tough decision between the Punnet Classics range of eggs and a delectable-sounding dish to satisfy your sweeet tooth, or something else altogether. Whether you’re coming for an ice cream, on a gift-buying escapade, or simply passing through for a coffee before the weekend market, Punnet oozes the kind of charm that makes it impossible not to want to come back time and time again.
