When Muse Art Gallery opened its doors for the first time in March 2017, there hadn’t been an art gallery in Havelock North for over six years. Since then, it has earned a reputation among locals and visitors alike as the place to go to experience incredible exhibitions as well as shop for unique items.

The main goals of Muse are to inspire people and make art accessible. To help achieve the former, the design of the space was very important, and the gallery was divided into distinct zones. There is, of course, the main exhibition space, where the work of local and national artists is showcased. Exhibitions change every 3-4 weeks, and there is always something new and exciting to come and view. When considering a programme, the gallery wants to show a variety of artists, mediums and perspectives. A unique aspect of Muse is that patrons have access to their stockroom, in the open space of the gallery, where you can pull out pieces to view. You never know what you might find.

As a part of the goal to make art accessible, there is a section dedicated to affordable art, where different budgets are catered for. This also provides the chance for up-and-coming artists to sell their work.

Last but certainly not least is the gift table, the gallery's curation of interesting items that you might not find anywhere else in town. Whether you are after a present for someone or something catches your eye, don’t leave the gallery without perusing it.

If you are visiting Havelock North or even if you have lived here for years, make sure you plan a visit to Muse Art Gallery. After all, experiencing art is good for the soul.
