Found in the heart of the Heretaunga shopping precinct, Blackbird Goods is a store that specialises in thoughtful items to better your everyday life.

For owners Gemma and Nathan, moving to Hawke’s Bay back in 2014 was a chance for a change of scenery and a different pace of life. They are both big advocates for the lifestyle in Te Matau a Māui, and Blackbird Goods is a reflection of their ethos of living an intentional life. The pair first opened a store in Napier in 2015, then found their current location on Heretaunga Street East and opened its doors in November 2020.

When you walk into the shop, it’s not uncommon at first glance to think, “Yes, I’ve landed in retail heaven.” With so many aesthetically pleasing items, it’s best to set aside a decent amount of time to browse and consider the goods in front of you. The buying and sourcing philosophy Gemma and Nathan embrace gravitates towards sustainable and ethical products. It’s important to them to know who the maker is, how it is made and where it comes from. They are most interested in stocking products that will have a lasting impact on your home and enhance its beauty.

There certainly are many items in store that will love being in your home, from ceramics and candles to everyday kitchen items that look prettier than your average cooking implement. There are also stunning decor pieces, the latest in fashion and a baby and children’s section that will melt your heart. New Zealand brands are heavily represented at Blackbird Goods, showcasing the owners' sense of pride in what these talented makers are producing.

Whether you are looking for a gift for someone special or a meaningful purchase for yourself, Blackbird Goods is the place to head to in Hastings to find a treasure or two.
