Housed in a once derelict 1930s building, The Wobbly Pot breathes more than a new lease of life into this corner of Paekākāriki. It’s a community hub and a genuine celebration of the best of the Kāpiti Coast’s art scene.

The bright white interior sets the tone, clean, simple, and quietly elegant, and acts as a blank canvas that lets each handmade piece of pottery command attention in its own right. Free from unnecessary distractions, each item is given space to breathe, from the mugs, vases, and bowls crafted in multiple palettes, to the monochrome delights on one side of the store. There’s no clutter, no rush, just the warmth of natural materials and the beauty of imperfection elevated to something timeless.

The Wobbly Pot is as much about community as it is about craft. The owners poured a year of work into bringing the space back to life, and in doing so, sparked a creative hub that showcases the talent of Kāpiti’s potters. The shelves hold work from a small, handpicked group of local artists, each with their own signature touch, from Jenn Leov and Sarah Bromley to Brett Thompson. Every piece here has a story to tell, a fingerprint of the hands that shaped it. It’s less a collection of objects and more a conversation between makers and the curious visitors who come to explore.

In a world of mass production and fast consumption, The Wobbly Pot stands quietly apart. Every piece here is unique, sourced and produced locally, so everything, even the spending, stays local. Each step of the process, from earth to the finished work, happens within the region, rest assured, you’re taking home not only a fine piece of handmade pottery, but a genuine slice of the Kāpiti Coast. It’s a reminder that beauty doesn’t need to be perfect or polished, just made with care, intention, and a little bit of wobble.
