It didn’t take long for Olde Beach Bakery to find a winning formula: a lively, community vibe coupled with some of the best baked goods you’ll find on the Kāpiti Coast. Sticking to this has proven wonders and the unassuming little bakery has grown over the years into a true Waikanae institution.

At first glance, it’s so easy to drive past - a small, pink outfit plonked right next to a dairy. But the queues that emerge from the front door on sunny weekends and snake down the length of Ono Street are the first clue that there’s more than meets the eye. Squeeze in through the masses of regulars (it’s a tight fit!) and feast your eyes on the cabinets teeming with beautiful flaky pies, scones, sandwiches, donuts, and other sweet and savoury treats. Take a right turn, navigate your way through the old-school chain curtain, and park up at a table in the delightful secluded courtyard, where you can catch some of that gorgeous Kāpiti Coast sun to go with your lunch and coffee.

The pies at Olde Beach Bakery have a well-earned reputation - you’d be hard-pressed to find a better bunch elsewhere in the wider Wellington region. The pulled pork, creamy mushroom, and chicken curry pies are hot favourites, and you’ll find the more traditional flavours as well, such as mine and cheese. The thick, chunky Turkish sandwiches are renowned too, and on the sweeter side, you can’t go past the cinnamon rolls and filled donuts.

Olde Beach Bakery is the kind of place that not only pumps out amazing food, but also knows it doesn’t need to try too hard. It’s the kind of place where they play their music loud, call their customers by name, and know what they drink. It’s the kind of place that will turn you into a Waikanae regular.
