It’s all in the name at Valley Views Glamping. This Otiake accommodation is perched above the Waitaki Valley and set amongst the rugged southern mountain ranges. A night or two spent here is a treat any time of the year.
To get there, turn off the Kurow-Duntroon Road also known as Highway 83. After about fifteen minutes you’ll soon spot Valley View’s distinctive domes in the distance. Get excited because these unique structures will be your home for the next wee while. They’re one of a kind and perfectly suited to this stunning environment, too.
Owners, Amber and Patrick, opened Valley Views in 2017. Since then they’ve perfected the art of glamping and hosted close to 4,500 guests from over 50 countries. They were actually the first to introduce glamping domes to New Zealand.
The domes themselves are something to behold. Each one frames the vista with a huge feature window, has a little log fire to keep you cosy and bed linens that rival even the fanciest hotels. The domes are all at least six metres in diameter so there’s plenty of room to move about. As the term ‘glamping’ suggests, you’ll feel at one with nature but supremely comfortable.
While you’ll enjoy complete solace and privacy in your dome you can wander up the hill to the shared kitchen area for a snack, coffee, barbeque or a bit of socializing. Breakfast is included in your stay and Amber does home cooked dinners in the kitchen area, too. Down the hill in the forest you can even take an outdoor tub (just check the sign first to see if its occupied!).
At Valley Views you can simply relax and go off-grid or you can use your dome as an home base from which to explore the Waitaki. If you need recommendations, just ask. Amber, who was born and raised here is a ‘Waitaki girl’ through and through and Patrick, originally from South Africa, worked as a New Zealand tour guide for many years. The pair know just about everything there is to know about touring the region. Whatever it is you’re wanting to do while you’re here, they can point you in the right direction.
