A familiar and very welcome sight in Palmerston North, Mouthwater Coffee Company is out to prove that there’s more to food and drink carts than quick, grab-and-go transactions.
The distinct red Mouthwater coffee carts can be found in three spots across central Palmerston North: Tremaine Avenue, Main Street and Kaimanawa Street. As is the case with the best food trucks, the aim here is forging a genuine sense of community despite not having a fixed premise. In fact, Mouthwater takes full advantage of its mobility, with its regular presence at events around town only embedding its status as a community favourite.
Community is the focus here - it’s the kind of place where anyone can rock up at any time to grab a coffee or some beans to go, served with some great yarns on the house. The carts are compact, no-nonsense, and focus on only the necessities - such as the dedicated ‘Dad Joke of the Day’ whiteboard that’s proving to be essential reading.
While Mouthwater is best known for its coffee, you can also pop by its carts to pick up some freshly baked treats on the go, courtesy of its friends at Babco. The cookies, donuts, pretzels, and other delicacies always make a great pairing, no matter your coffee order, and in summer, you can’t go past Mouthwater’s cold brew and iced drinks.
The team at Mouthwater lives by a simple slogan - “love people, love coffee”. Much like its offering, it gets to the point, focuses on the important stuff, and serves as a reminder that people and relationships are always at the centre.
