Well-known for their cheeky card selection, varied array of NZ made goods and highly unique, small-batch brands, this home & gift shop is a must-visit for anyone looking to treat themselves.

Owner Tania had spent her career in retail, holding onto the dream to one day open a shop of her own. In 2020, that dream finally came to fruition when the perfect space in Waikiwi suddenly became available and then: See Ya Peter was born.

The store itself is simple, with clean white walls and industrial concrete floors, but it’s dripping in personality and creativity thanks to obscure finds that you’d be stumped to find anywhere else in the city. Tania invests much of her time scouring the internet for NZ makers to stock in her shop, and her eye for beautiful gifts and homewares has created plenty of buzz around town. The stock is ever-changing, and will have something new for you to admire with each and every visit.

Tania is more than just a curator and shop owner, though. She’s also an artist and maker in her own right. One of the shop’s best-selling products are her handmade Kokedamas (which means “moss ball” in Japanese). With a range of sizes, this Japanese form of a Bonsai plant makes for an exceptional housewarming gift.

Of course, if you’re looking for a gift for yourself, you don’t have to look far. From plant stands to cookbooks and handmade jewellery, See Ya Peter is the kind of place you can feel good about purchasing from, since you’ll be supporting small businesses all over New Zealand. A worthy excuse to stock up on more luxury candles? We’ll take it.
