It may trace its roots to Upper Hutt, but Dough has certainly made a name for itself among bread lovers in Wellington’s city centre.
The Dough bakery, tucked away in Lombard Lane, is the second to have opened following the success of the original Upper Hutt outfit. Although it feels like a world away from the Hutt Valley, it retains the same slick look and feel - a beautiful counter fully decked out in royal blue tiles, an interplay of clean brick, white and wooden surfaces, all complemented by shelves overflowing with - you guessed it - loaves of freshly baked bread. It’s a cute little store that fits neatly in with its laneway neighbours, exuding both chic and welcoming vibes.
For a small shop, it goes above and beyond to deliver the goods. There’s a loaf for all tastes, whether it’s rye, sourdough or ciabatta you’ve got a hankering for, and Dough even makes the bold claim to serve up the best gluten-free bread in town. The Turkish bread takes much of the spotlight in a star-studded lineup, and it’d be rude not to pick up a donut while you’re visiting.
A favourite hidden gem for capital foodies in the know, Lombard Lane is the place to go for a genuine slice of Wellington, with a trip to Dough not to be missed.
