170-172 Cuba Street, Te Aro, Wellington

Cuba Street boasts an abundance of super-cool cafes, and Olive nuzzles into place with just the right balance of quirk and class. A bright and busy interior leads through to an exotic courtyard; stepping outside, one experiences a brilliant change of atmosphere. The classic café playlist is replaced by ambient world music, and it feels as if one has been transported into an exotic new world. Greenery weaves its way from rustic pottery and around wooden beams to an open-air canopy, like a tent in the jungle. A glimpse through the leaves at the beige building above is the sole reminder of the city.

During the day there is quiet chatter and sounds of running water, as couples enjoy coffee, and a businessman or two settle in for a hot breakfast. By night the outdoor bar opens and it sparkles beneath elegant chandeliers. Conversations flicker by firelight. It’s a magical atmosphere - even the candlelit restroom smells like roses!

Olive provides attentive service, luxurious ambiance, perfectly poached eggs and a top cup of black coffee! It’s a great place to duck away and temporarily escape the pedestrian jostle. Both relaxing and trendy, you can take your grandma or your girlfriend – no worries. This is a café not to be missed.
