Situated within the popular neighbourhood of businesses on Majoribanks Street is Tomboy, a small boutique café, cakery and catering business with the feel of a country cottage kitchen.

The front cabinet offers a gorgeous selection of daily changing treats, all made on the premises and always inclusive of at least one gluten free cake, a brioche, scone and sandwich. The coffee machine serves L’affare coffee, plus the caffeine free beetroot latte is definitely worth a try, while freshly made juices with beetroot, carrot, salary and spinach provide a cold hit. The catering side of the business offers a varied selection of platter options and custom cake making, predominantly for birthdays though wedding cakes are also starting to take off. People are encouraged to come in and have a chat about their ideas as it helps the customization of each cake. Deliveries are made by the ever-reliable Russel at Nocargo.

Opposite the kitchen sits the large communal table with an assortment of chairs and throws, and a constant supply of fresh flowers. The table is perfect for group conversation which effortlessly happens between the kitchen and customers, and is exactly what the relaxed space is about.

Owner and operator Kate Marinkovich had decided it was time to do her own thing with an emphasis on delicious wholesome food in a relaxed environment, and from there Tomboy was born, aptly named after her own son. The majority of the fit out and design was done by Kate herself, with some help from Jack Candlish at Proffer.

Future plans include chefs table style evenings and take home dinners, both eagerly anticipated by the regulars.
