The Zelati name comes from an amalgamation of ‘New Zealand’ and ‘gelati’ (the plural form of gelato) and the brand embodies this locally-inspired name in everything they do. Made at their Tawa freezeria from only the freshest high quality ingredients, each batch is made with the care only handcrafted expertise can achieve.
Zelati is well known in the Wellington hospitality scene and to punters who have sampled their delicious goods at events around the region from their converted ambulance, so the permanent store has already seen strong support by loyal customers and new converts alike. From the texture to the rich, bright flavours, their range of sorbet and gelato offerings are impressive on the palate and pleasing to the eye.
Seeing the colourful flavours lined up in the cabinet is like viewing a brilliant work of art, you’ll want to try every flavour. Dig into the humble lemon piquant, try the best sellers - chocolate fondant and raspberry velvet, or wrap your tongue around the award winning salted caramel and passion fruit sorbet. There are plenty of vegan options to ensure everyone gets to enjoy the best of the best.
The space itself is sunny and modern, with a huge mural dominating one wall of the shop (perfect for Instagramming that delicious double scoop). For those on the move you can take away in a cone for a zero-waste snack. If you’re in the mood for something a little more substantial, try one of their delicious (and vegan) waffles or a fresh-baked cookie sammie.
If you like a great deal, pick up a stamp card and enjoy a few perks for being a regular. The friendly staff are serving the goods six days per week and it’s going to be difficult to stay away, so you might as well make the most of it!
