Whether you are five or 95, the Otago Farmers Market has something for everyone. Rain or shine, wind or hail, the friendly market vendors are always enthusiastic and willing to have a yarn and provide a taste test of the delicious goods that they have on offer. Flowers, vegetables, fruit, herbs, cheese, pastries, pies and recipes - this market has it all.
There is always a bustle around the most popular stalls. In winter, line up while you salivate over the smells coming from the Bacon Buttie Man’s van. Down the opposite end is ‘La Crepe’ where you can parlez le Français to your heart’s content with the friendly French crepe-makers. Caitlin’s True Brew, meanwhile, offers eco beers crafted from rainwater without gimmicks or shortcuts and Abdal’s whips up Syrian flatbread on a saj dome - truly delicious. If you’re a home chef be sure to give the local catches from Harbour Fish a look and stock up on plant-based milks from Ronia and Pippi (who also do dandelion coffee).
The early birds are in for a treat from Dolce Vita - a small world of baking and sweets on a mission to bring the best sweet things in the world to Dunedin. You will have to be quick though, as these goodies are impatient and don’t hang around for long.
