Walking down Peel Street in Gisborne, you don’t necessarily expect to stumble upon a petite and polished wine bar – but you’ll be delighted to find yourself at the doorway of Siduri nonetheless.
This wine destination has been in the neighbourhood for some time now, established by Sam Milton (of Milton Wines) at the end of 2019. A few years later, Sam passed the keys over to Moana Grant, a Gisborne local who has always had a deep love and appreciation for this intimate hangout. In the hands of this ambitious wahine, the bar continues to be a thriving place to enjoy novel wines – with a few new additions in the mix.
While there are plenty of restaurants about town pouring Gisborne and New Zealand drops, Siduri has always been a place to travel via your wine glass. One sip will take you from Lebanon to Argentina to France, with a few other stopovers on the way. Grab a glass, share a bottle between friends, or even take a few numbers home to jazz up your own collection. From the beginning, Moana was keen to shake up the bar’s offering to include a solid list of cocktails inspired by her love of Japanese ingredients – so expect your sours and spritzes to come with a yuzu sake hit. A sophisticated menu of delicious bites keeps your glass in excellent company, from cheese and charcuterie boards to fresh oysters, takoyaki, sliders and more.
As if visitors needed any more reason to swing by, Siduri’s calendar is becoming increasingly populated with cultural events, including dreamy acoustic evenings, energetic DJ sets, slam poetry nights and local art exhibitions. More than just a place to experience remarkable wines, this beloved spot has grown into a lively and inclusive community space to gather, share stories, and celebrate local talent.
